Daily Habits.
Apr 17, 2023There's a lot we know about highly effective leaders, but one piece I love about highly effective leaders is some research that was done in Asia, where they had 250 participants and across those 250 people, every exceptional leader had to record in 15 minute increments exactly what activities they did during the day.
They collected an enormous amount of data over a month, and by the end of that month they did an analysis of it, looking for the most frequent habits of highly successful leaders.
The thing that came up as number one was daily exercise.
I encourage you, whether you want to be a highly effective leader, whether you just want to feel motivated in your own life, or whether you just want to have energy on a day to day basis and not have to rely on the two of the three coffees that you have every day, to embrace daily exercise as a new habit.
It doesn't really matter how much you move, it just matters that you move.
Walk up and down a flight of stairs one day, take part in a yoga practice another day, go for a walk with a friend, do a run, play hockey.
Whatever the nature of the exercise is, just getting up and moving and making that a daily habit is what makes it work.
It's much, much easier to make a daily habit of exercising, similar to how you eat every day, sleep every day, and move every day than what it is to make a two or a three day per week habit.
If you are interested in habits in developing them by far and away, I recommend the book Atomic Habits by James Clear.
James walks you through the anatomy of habits, how to create them, what causes you to break them, and more.
If you're up to creating this new daily habit, it’s time to get up off the couch and move! Do something, somewhere, with someone.
You won't regret it.
