Change.
Apr 07, 2023Let’s talk about our human perception of change.
I’m in a lot of different situations, workshops, meetings and forums where people talk about change in a range of different ways, but the thing that most people tend to say about change is that people don't like it.
I disagree.
In my experience with humans, it’s the reason behind the change they don’t like, not necessarily the change itself.
They don't like change if they feel inadequate about the skills they're going to need to navigate the new world.
They don't like change if they have not been read into it or consulted about it before it occurred.
Although there is definite evidence to suggest human behaviour moves toward security and away from change.
One of the things we can do in our conversations around change is open up our mindset on what change is like and what it does for us.
Every time you change a job, every time you move, any time you make a change in your life, you have an opportunity for something new, better, or different.
Very often we cling to the old ways of doing things because they make us comfortable, but do we really want to spend our entire lives purely being comfortable?
I'm not quite sure about that. I think there's more to life than just being comfortable.
Think about your world and your view of change.
How do you feel about it?
Are you happy to change provided you know the purpose behind it and have the skills you need to navigate that change successfully?
